Sex Is Zero 2
I like to think that there are two kinds of people in the world: the ones that liked “Sex is Zero” and the ones that didn’t. You can count me in as one of the many that did find the movie to be a hilarious riot. Now, 5 years later, the sequel for “Sex is Zero” is about to be released on December 13, 2007 in South Korea. Better yet, most of the cast from the original returns for the sequel, sans Ji-won Ha (she does make a brief cameo appearance).
“Sex is Zero 2,” Eun-sik has met a new girl named Kyeong-ah. They have dated for three years, but still haven’t reached second base in their relationship. So far, their most intimate moment has been just a simple kiss. Kyeong-ah is a talented swimmer, which makes Eun-Sik all the more lustful when he sees her in a bathing suit.
Meanwhile, when Eun-sik isn’t studying law or dreaming about Kyeong-ah, he spends his time at the university’s K-1 club. The club used to be for the martial arts, but has now focused exclusively on K-1 fights. Eun-sik’s close friend, Sung-kook, heads the K-1 fight club and advises Eun-Sik on how to pass first base with Kyeong-ah. Sung-kook also seems to be falling for Eun-Sik’s swimming coach.
With the original “Sex is Zero,” there were plenty of low-brow jokes (semen and scrambled eggs, sex in the wrong hole, farts, etc.) to make some wince and others laugh. You should expect more of the same in “Sex is Zero 2.” What probably shocked foreign audiences more than the bawdy humor, would have been the sudden change from silly comedy to serious drama in the second half of the film. If you watch a lot of Korean comedies, you’ll realize that this is actually the norm.
One person that you may or may not recognize in the “Sex is Zero 2″ is the effeminate actor, Tae-Hak Li (he’s the one that plugged the girl in the wrong hole by accident). He does appear in the sequel, but he’s no longer a “he”. Earlier this year, Tae-Hak Li underwent a complete sex change operation and now goes by the name of Sea-youn Lee. Sea-youn appears in “Sex is Zero 2″ as a transgender.
